The incident, which unfolded in 2013, involved a man named Sitthichok, whose rejection by his ex-girlfriend spiraled into a violent vendetta that ended with a shocking twist of fate. The relationship had soured, and when his ex-girlfriend ended things, Sitthichok refused to accept it. His obsession escalated from pleas to a violent confrontation.
The ordeal began at the woman's workplace. Fueled by anger, Sitthichok confronted her, not with words, but with a pair of scissors. He attempted to stab her, but she managed to escape his initial assault and fled to the safety of her home. Undeterred and with his rage now at a boiling point, Sitthichok decided to escalate his attack in a terrifying way.
A Fatal Decision
Later that day, Sitthichok arrived at his ex-girlfriend's house, armed with a hand grenade. He pulled the pin and hurled the explosive device at the residence, intending to cause catastrophic harm. But then, nothing happened. The grenade landed with a thud but failed to detonate. For a moment, it seemed disaster had been averted. However, instead of retreating, Sitthichok made a fateful decision. Frustrated that his weapon had failed, he walked back to the dud grenade, picked it up, and prepared to throw it again. It was in that precise moment that the device exploded.
The Aftermath: Poetic Justice or Tragic Irony?
The blast was devastating. Sitthichok was killed instantly, his plan for revenge turning into a grisly act of self-destruction. The explosion also injured four bystanders who were unfortunate enough to be nearby. Miraculously, the intended target of the attack, his ex-girlfriend, was inside the house and remained completely unharmed. The very weapon meant to end her life had instead ended his, leaving her physically unscathed.
Police officials who arrived at the scene confirmed the strange sequence of events. Police Colonel Kamthorn Uicharoen of the Bang Khen district police stated:
The man died on the spot. The explosive device was a grenade... It is likely that the man was not an expert in using it.
